The runway at Narrabri Airport is next in line to be upgraded, thanks a $297,000 Federal Government grant.
Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton met with Narrabri Shire Council Mayor Ron Campbell to announce the funding, provided under Round 2 of the Australian Government’s Regional Airports Program.
“Narrabri Airport provides a fundamental service to the local community, and the Coalition Government understands the importance of backing regional communities and improving the nation’s infrastructure,” Mr Coulton said.
“This upgrade will help the Narrabri community be assured that aviation safety obligations are up to scratch, while creating jobs and other economic opportunities for the future.
“Regional airports play an important social role in connecting individuals and families, and I look forward to working with Narrabri Shire Council to deliver this vital funding.”
Narrabri Shire Mayor Ron Campbell said the funding would enable Council to reseal the runway at Narrabri Airport, improving the facility for future air traffic.
“Narrabri Airport has multiple uses, offering commercial and chartered passenger and freight services along with medical retrieval and emergency service aircraft,” Cr Campbell said.
“An upgraded runway will provide a modern, safe, all-weather surface for travel which is imperative to the safety and efficiency of aircraft movement.
“This funding will improve the shire’s ongoing services for all users of Narrabri Airport.”
Narrabri Shire Council also received $299,292 in Round 1 of the Regional Airports Program, which was used to complete the $598,000 apron extension project.
