You are invited to attend a community information session on the Australian Government’s major new environmental programme the Green Army.
The Green Army supports practical, grassroots environment and heritage conservation projects across urban, regional and remote Australia.
The Green Army provides young Australians aged 17-24 with the tools they need to help them enter the workforce, improve their career opportunities or further their education and training, while participating in projects that generate real and lasting benefits for the environment.
“The community information sessions are a great way for those interested in the Green Army Programme to learn more about it,” Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton said.
“I would encourage community organisations, environment groups, local councils and young Australians to attend to see how they can become involved in the Green Army.”
“Green Army projects may involve restoring and protecting native habitat, weeding, revegetation, cleaning up waterways, creeks and rivers, fencing, gully remediation, preventing erosion, protecting and conserving heritage places and values, or monitoring and surveying on Indigenous and non Indigenous lands.“
Participants will have the opportunity to undertake accredited training such as work readiness, conservation and land management, heritage conservation, project and human resource management and heritage trade skills.
They also receive an allowance and are eligible to gain Certificate I or Certificate II qualifications in areas such as land management, park management, landscaping or horticulture or nationally endorsed skills set to support them in their future career prospects.
“Whether you’re a potential project sponsor or interested in joining the Green Army as a participant, the sessions provide an opportunity to talk with representatives from the Australian Government Department of the Environment about the Programme,” Mr Coulton said.
