More than 2,100 Fibre to the Node premises planned for Cobar
The connection to superfast broadband to more than 2,100 homes and businesses in Cobar is about to go live as the nbn completes the rollout of fibre to the node.
The Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton said the Australian Government’s National Broadband Network will boost productivity and provide a platform for innovation to ensure the economic and social benefits of the internet are available to every Australian.
“The development of digital technologies has reduced business costs, changed how our children study and learn, and created many more ways to engage socially,” he said.
The nbn’s next generation connectivity is fast and reliable, enabling households and small businesses to be more productive and better connected for years to come.
Homes and business in Cobar are connected to the nbn using fibre to the node (FTTN) technology. FTTN offers average wholesale broadband speeds of around 70 megabits per second (Mbps), with many premises able to access speeds of up to 100 Mbps. nbn will ensure that at least 90 per cent of the fixed-line footprint will have access to wholesale download speeds of 50 Mbps.
Mr Coulton said the rollout in the Electorate of Parkes was gathering pace thanks to nbn’s simplified network construction and the company’s strong relationship with local contractors.
“It’s an exciting time for residents in Cobar with around 2,145 homes and businesses seeing the nbn being accessible to the network right now,” he said.
It typically takes a couple of weeks to connect up to the nbn after placing an order, and all residents will require new in-home equipment that is compatible with the faster nbn service.
Under the Coalition Government’s broadband policy, nbn has shaved years off construction time which will see the nbn connect to 3 out of every 4 homes and businesses in Australia in 2018. More information on how to connect to the nbn is available at www.nbnco.com.au
