Mark Coulton MP, Federal Member for Parkes

Coulton says find out about your Aged Care options before you need them

Monday, 19 June 2017

A variety of aged care services and support options are available to help older people remain independent and to continue to enjoy living in their communities, the Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton said.
Mr Coulton said the launch of the My Aged Care campaign in the Electorate of Parkes aimed to encourage older Australians, their families and carers to find out about their aged care options before a crisis event triggers that need.
“Making inquiries about aged care, before it is needed urgently, makes a lot of sense,” he said.
“Older people want to live independently as long as possible. But when a health crisis or accident happens, they may suddenly find that they need help.
“They’re trying to find out about their aged care options, in a hurry, but they don’t know where to start.
“It adds to the stress of what is an already stressful time.”
“That’s why it’s a good idea for older people to talk about their personal preferences and care options with their families or a health professional,” Mr Coulton said.
If you or someone you know might need support, start by visiting the My Aged Care website or calling the phone line. These provide information about services available in the local area, how to access them, costs and other information.
“My Aged Care is the starting point for older people to find out about services they can access,” Mr Coulton said.
“Services include home maintenance and modifications, help with household jobs like cleaning, assistance with transport, and nursing and personal care.
“The Australian Government wants all older Australians, their families and carers, to know about their aged care options.
“If you are finding it harder to do the things you used to do and feel you need a bit of support at home, find the help you need with My Aged Care.”
